Functional Analysis of Severe Behavior: What We Know and Do Not Know

Presenter: Tim Vollmer, Ph.D., BCBA

Most behavior analysts are now familiar with the behavioral assessment model known as functional analysis. In fact, the method was a theme of this year’s Florida Association for Behavior Analysis (FABA) conference, with Brian Iwata serving as keynote speaker in honor of the 25th year since publication of his seminal publication on the topic. However, because research on functional analysis is coming in so quickly, it is difficult for practicing behavior analysts as well as other professionals who work in the field to know about new information on the topic. In this presentation, rather than viewing a “how to” session (given that the procedures are now generally familiar), the audience will receive up to date information on what is known about the operant functions of behavior disorders (including effective treatments). In addition, the audience will hear discussion of what is not yet known; areas where we as a field need new informationsuch as how to assess low frequency, high intensity behavior. The presentation will include power point slides with data, video clips of actual functional analysis sessions, and question and answer periods with audience participation. The presentation is designed for behavior analysts, behavior specialists, and educational professionals who have good foundation knowledge of behavioral assessment and would like more advanced information specific to functional analysis methodology.

Education credits will be available to Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Board Certified Associate Behavior Analysts through the First Coast Association of Behavior Analysts.

Registration is mandatory…deadline is September 24, 2007.
