Miami-Dade County Public Schools is one of the many school districts across the state of Florida to implement School-wide Positive Behavior Support. SWPBS, a program model, is currently being implemented in a total of 22 schools throughout the district. The program includes a strong training and technical support component from the University of South Florida, Florida's Positive Behavior Support Project. The philosophy of Positive Behavior Support centers upon principles of positive reinforcement, instruction of appropriate social behaviors, and modification on a macro-system wide level encompassing all students and staff. Behavior is analyzed with the use of data analysis. Interventions are strategically implemented in order to improve school climate, overall student behavior, increase test scores, and reduce referrals and suspension rates.
