Beginning by the student's fourteenth birthday (or younger, if determined appropriate by the IEP team), the IEP Team must consider the need for instruction or the provision of information in the area of self-determination to assist the student to be able to actively and effectively participate in Transition IEP meetings and self-advocate, if appropriate.

Self-Determination: 9th -12th Grade Course Description

The purpose of this course is to enable students with disabilities to develop and apply self-determination skills in school, home, community, and work settings.  These skills will assist students with achieving their desired school and post-school outcomes, participating actively and effectively in planning meetings, and self-advocating in multiple settings.
